Mrs. Nellie Viola Tew, age 93, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at a local hospital.Mrs. Tew was born in Forest Park, GA on April 14, 1929, daughter of the late Thomas Watts Goodrum and the late Mary Alice Dumas Goodrum. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Mrs. Tew retired from Rome City Schools where she served children lunches at West Rome High School for many years, then later volunteered at Redmond Regional Medical Center and Harbin Clinic. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Asa Tew, Sr., and her siblings, Doris Freeman (Eugene), Norris Goodrum (Elaine) and Virginia Goodrum.She is survived by her children, Billy Tew (Charlsa), Renee Tew Smith (Rob) and Lyvonne Burleson (Gordon); her grandchildren, Ashley Tew Mustico (Matthew), Marlee Smith and Will Smith; her sisters, Carolyn Gibson, Jane Worsham (Charles) and Gwen Gaylor; and many nieces, nephews, special friends, and caregivers.A Celebration of Mrs. Nellie's life will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 11:00am in Storey Hall at Fellowship Baptist Church with Chaplain Billy Murdock officiating. In keeping with Mrs. Nellie's wishes, please come in casual attire. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends at Fellowship Baptist Church on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 10:00am until the service time.The family would like to express their appreciation to the Brookdale community for their love, care, and friendship that was given to their mother.
