Nelda Ruth Gibbs Demers of Hide-A-Way, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 in Tyler, Texas. She was born June 25, 1937 in Athens, Texas to the late Floyd Burtist (Buck) Gibbs and Leila Mae (Worsham) Gibbs. Nelda has lived in Hide-A-Way Lake for the past 24 years. Prior to moving to Hide-A-Way Lake, she enjoyed many addresses as a military wife. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lindale where she was an active choir member until the last year and a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class. She was a majorette when she attended Baylor University. While living in Waco, she was a dance instructor at Arthur Murray where she met her soul mate, Bernie. During her working years, Nelda was a sales representative for RCA Global Communications in Washington, DC and Dallas, Texas and was number one in sales at a time when men ruled the sales force. Nelda LOVED singing. She sang with big bands, small ensembles and church choirs for many years and enjoyed performing in community theater. Nelda also enjoyed Mah Jongg, Mad Hatters and several dance groups, but she was most passionate about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life and she was most happy when she could be with them. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents Buck and Leila Mae Gibbs, two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild. Nelda is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bernie Demers of Hide-A-Way, Texas; children, Bill Demers and wife Amy, of Rochester, Washington; Dee Merritt of Allen, Texas; Chris Demers and wife Susan of Ft. Worth, Texas; Kim Bond and husband, Mitchell of Lindale, TX. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorial gifts be made to Children's Advocacy Center of East Texas, 2210 Frankston Highway, Tyler, TX 75701.
