Neal Wittman Lavin, Sr., age 61, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2022, with his family at his side. A native of River Ridge, LA, he was born on June 22, 1960, to the late Adolph Lavin and Diane Wittman Lavin. Neal is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cynthia Lowe Lavin; his daughters, Shanna Lavin Black and Lindsey Lavin Rivette; son, Neal Lavin Jr. (Bailey Osorno); grandchildren, Hayley and Landen Rivette, Jett Black, Theodore, Lovie and Penelope Lavin; his brother, Guy Lavin (Debra Lowe); his sister, Leslie Lavin Guillot (Erik); and his in-laws Angela Lowe Donegan, Danny Donegan, and Tone Pedersen Lowe. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews and cherished friends. Neal is preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Eric Lowe; and mother and father in-law, Gloria and Joseph Lowe. Neal graduated from Bonnabel High School and was a member of the 1977 State Championship runner-up football team, where the teammates and coaches remain close friends. He was a member of the Bonnabel Fellowship of Christian Athletes Alumni and was a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Kenner. He worked for Louisiana Dispenser for over 25 years. After Hurricane Katrina hit, he cooked for Intralox employees. This evolved into opening his own restaurant, The River Café. After running that for five years, he took a job at Jefferson Parish, working in the general services division. One of the many jobs he loved and took great pride in was setting up the podium for the parish events. He was very involved at Little Farms playground as both a coach for his son's teams and cooking for events there. He was an avid Saints and LSU Fan. He especially loved Tiger baseball. He had many patio parties at his house for family and friends. He was a wonderful cook and won various awards. He was most known for his jambalaya. One of his proudest accomplishments was winning best overall at the Jambalaya cookoff at the Treasure Chest Casino. He will be missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass to be celebrated in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. The interment will be privately held at a later date.
