Nathanial "Nate" James Herrick (48), of Bradford, NH, passed away peacefully of natural causes in his sleep on July 28, 2021, while visiting family in Benson, VT.
Nate was born in Providence, RI to James "Jim" and Coreen (Doran) Herrick on April 26, 1973. He grew up in Epsom and Concord, NH, and graduated from Concord High School in 1991. He earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1996 and a master's degree in education in 2004, both from Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH. He married Anita Sanford of Greenfield, IN on August 20, 1995. Nate taught English as an adjunct professor at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, NH for 13 years and homeschooled all four of his sons.
Nate had a strong Christian faith, was a lifelong fan of Star Wars and Marvel Comics, enjoyed pop culture (especially movies and music), and loved driving around local back roads on his motorcycle. He had a hilarious and silly sense of humor and was endlessly creative?from writing songs and stories to sketching and painting people and scenes from everyday life. Nate's biggest passion was music. He played piano, guitar, bass guitar, and drums. He regularly played in bands and church worship teams, and his proudest achievement was teaching his sons to play instruments and forming a family band, Cat Castle, which his sons plan to continue to carry on his legacy.
Nate is preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Janice (Travis) Herrick, and Edward and Nancy (Villemaire) Doran.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Anita; his four sons, Samuel "Sam," Joseph "Joe," Clayton "Clay," and Ferguson "Gus," who were the center of his world; his devoted parents, Jim and Coreen; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom he had close relationships.
