Narciso (Robert) Vela, 77, of Weslaco, Tx passed away at Spanish Meadows Nursing home in Brownsville, TX on February 6, 2025. He was born on July 01, 1947, in McAllen, TX to Juan and Maria Cantu Vela. He attended and graduated from McAllen High School. He proudly served his country in the U S Army from 1965 to 1969 and continued with the Army Reserve until 1975. Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather with a big heart and very charismatic to all he met along the way. His character would light up any room as soon as he walked in. Robert loved music, dancing, and golf. He lived life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with family, friends and his beloved dog Nick.
He is survived by his wife Yolanda Valdez Vela, his two sons Mario R (Cathy) Vela and Juan Amado Vela, his 2 daughters Adriana (Ricardo) Gonzalez and Daniela (Michael) Dial, Step daughter Yesenia (Courtney) Lankford, Step son Steve (Renae) Akright, 1 Brother Rudy (Connie) Vela, 3 sisters Juana Vela De Leon, Gracie Vela, and Sylvia (Robert) Jimenez and his 9 grandchildren Nathaniel S. Dial, Martin Gonzalez, Marissa Gonzalez, Nathalia N. Gonzalez, Madelyn J. Vela, Mathew J. Vela, Max Akright, Sam Akright and Jaden Lankford. Also surviving him are numerous nieces and nephews.
Narciso is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Maria de los Angeles Vela, Mary V. Petschelt, Jose Angel Vela, and Jesus M Vela.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be February 13, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, TX at 10:00 a.m. and cremation will follow.
Inurnment of his cremated remains will be on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas with military honors. Services have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes, TX.
