Nancy Whitaker-Johnson, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 12, 2021, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC. Mrs. Whitaker-Johnson was born Nancy Claire Farmer on February 17, 1938, in Kershaw, SC, the daughter of the late Wade Hampton "Red" Farmer and the late Alice E. Herring Farmer. Her family quickly moved to Charleston, SC, where she spent her life into adulthood. Nancy enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom to her two children and many pets. She also volunteered in her church and her children's schools. Always residing in the South?South Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia?Nancy was indeed a true Southern belle. When her nest became empty, she enjoyed a successful career as a real estate broker. She is known in her hometown of Lancaster, SC, for hosting the most beautiful parties, dressing impeccably, always wearing a smile, and being a friend to all. Nancy is survived by her beloved husband Justin A. Johnson of Florence (formerly of Lancaster), her son Gary H. "Chip" Whitaker, Jr. (Susan) of Lexington, SC, her daughter Amy E. Whitaker-Singleton (Pete) of Florence, her two granddaughters, Mary-Hampton Singleton and Elizabeth C. Singleton both of Florence, as well as Michael E. Johnson (Ann) of Chicago, IL, Marshall Johnson (Lisa) of Telford, PA, Matthew Johnson (Amy) of Asheboro, NC, Miranda Masuga of Charleston, SC, Catie Johnson of Greenville, NC, and Ian Johnson of Portland, OR. She is also survived by her sister Ophelia Farmer Small of Johns Island, SC, her brother Lanny L. Farmer (Mary) of Clemmons, NC, her nieces Jennifer Small McCarthy, Dana Farmer Logan, and Brandi Farmer Koontz, her nephew W. Kevin Small, and her "favorite child" Gwen Byrd.
