Nancy Scafe Covert of Centreville, MD died at home Monday July 20, 2020. She was 81.
Born in New Jersey to Eugene T. Scafe and Katharine C. Furman on September 26, 1938. She attended schools in New Jersey and Delaware, graduating from P.S. DuPont High School in 1956. A graduate from the University of Delaware with honors in 1962. She married John A. Covert in 1960 and moved to Maryland in 1962. Nancy and Jack recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Nancy taught at Centreville Elementary school for 28 years, retiring in 1993. She belonged to the Young Women's Club of Centreville, Centreville P.T.As., Delta Kappa Gamma, Queen Anne's County Quilt Guild, Corsica Ladies Investment Club, the ladies Book Club, a bridge and swimming group. She volunteered for Centreville Elementary, Storytime on Wheels and Camp New Dawn. She served on the boards of Day Care, Inc. & Queen Anne's County Free Library as well as Centreville's Board of Zoning Appeals. She worked as an election judge for Queen Anne's County.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Covert as well as son, Michael J. Covert and his wife Patrizia, and a daughter Katharine J. Covert, sisters Martha S. Fisher and Julia Furman. Arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Compass Regional Hospice 160 Coursevall Drive Centreville, MD 21617.
