Nancy Jo Steele Rubeck was born January 16, 1933 in Steele, AR. At the age of two her family moved to Springdale, AR where she grew up and attended school. She went to Stephens College in Missouri for one year and then transferred to the University of Arkansas where she met her future husband, Arthur Hilgard Rubeck, in the registration line. She also became an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Nancy and Art married on June 12, 1955 and were married for 60 years, 11 months when he passed away in 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Rubeck Shingleton and partner Rachel Johansen; her son, Thomas Steele Rubeck and husband Juan Vega; sister, Marjorie Steele Brooks of Springdale, AR; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Steele of Fayetteville, AR. She has two grandsons, Robert Shingleton and wife Stephanie Gambino of Seattle, Washington, and Blake Shingleton of Lake Summerset, IL. Nancy was involved in several activities including demonstrating Polaroid cameras when they first came out. She went to work for Love Field National Bank where, in 1980, she was held at gunpoint in the largest bank robbery at that time. She was a Girl Scout leader, drove for Meals on Wheels, and volunteered in the gift shop at Irving Community Hospital. She was an avid bridge player all her life, and spent several years as a leader with the youth program at their church of over 60 years, Plymouth Park United Methodist Church. Her service will be held at the church on Thursday, February 3, 2022, starting at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be the day prior, Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Brown Memorial Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. She will be buried with her husband at the DFW National Cemetery on February 28, 2022 at 10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, please give to the organization of your choice.
