Nancy Moore West, 94, of Stamford passed away Monday August 15, 2022 in Abilene. The family will welcome guests at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 18 at Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held in Spring Creek Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday August 19, in St. John's United Methodist Church with Pastors Steve Patterson and Paul Wright officiating.
Nancy was born in Albany, Texas on September 4, 1927 to Jack H. Moore and Imogene Lieb Moore. She graduated from Albany High School in 1945. After High school, Nancy entered Tarleton, (then a Junior College). She transferred to The University of Texas in Austin where she received a degree in Home Economics with a major in clothing, textiles and design. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.
Nancy met James Harve West and they were married in Albany, Texas on September 23, 1950. Nancy and Jim moved to Stamford where he joined his father J.F. West in the oil business.
Nancy loved being in her "new" home town. She and Jim raised two children, a son James Charles West and a daughter Jeanne West.
Nancy loved others and was always ready to prepare food and give comfort to the bereaved at her Church. Active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, she served in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher, Board member and for many years provided floral arrangements for the Sanctuary.
Throughout her life Nancy stayed involved in community events and organizations. She was a member of the Stamford Music Club and served as Club President, District President, and was a life member of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs. In 1961 Nancy was chosen as the Texas Cowboy Reunion Hostess. In 1981 she was honored as the Woman of the Year by the Stamford Chamber of Commerce.
Preceding Nancy in death were her parents, her husband, Jim, with whom she shared a happy marriage for 66 years.
Nancy is survived by her son James C. West, her daughter, Jeanne West both of Stamford. Grandchildren, Sarah Gaston Carroll and husband Danny of Columbia, Missouri; Lacey West of Brighton, England; Kirby West McConn and husband Andrew David Mc Conn of Houston and Katherine Jean Curtis of Stamford; Great grandchildren, Jasper and Wylder Carroll of Columbia, Missouri and Max, Eloise and Thomas McConn of Houston and Sebastian Kingsley of Brighton, England.
