Nancy Margaret Davis McDonald, PhD, age 79, of Simpsonville, South Carolina entered this life on February 1, 1942 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was the loving daughter of Harold Louis "Beano" and Emma Margaret Claflin Davis. She was raised in Madison and was a 1960 graduate of Shawe Memorial High School. She was raised in the Catholic faith and member of the Prince of Peace Church in Madison. Nancy was a 1969 graduate of Western Kentucky University with her bachelor of arts in English and received her Masters Degree in 1970. Nancy then attended Vanderbilt University to work on her doctorate and completed her PhD at Florida Atlantic University in 2013. On June 10, 1972 Nancy was united in marriage to Aaron McDonald in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This happy union of nearly 49 years was blessed with a daughter, Victoria Claflin McDonald. Nancy began her 38-year career teaching English at the University of Cincinnati and Owensboro Community College. She then taught English and Astronomy at Western Kentucky University and then for 22 years at Palm Beach State College and was a Professor of English and Honor's Liaison. She had co-owned and co-operated with her husband McDonald Engineering Corp. in Palm Beach Gardens for 20 years. Dr. McDonald had a passion for Astronomy, writing, piano, needlework and was an avid reader. She held memberships in Phi Kappa Phi, Mensa, Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Fraternity, and the National Collegiate Honors Council. Nancy never lost her love for her beloved hometown Madison and enjoyed writing a column in The Madison Courier for several years. She was a founding member of St Ignatius Loyola Cathedral Parish. She loved her German Shepherd dogs, studying genealogy, and collecting rocks. She fought a gallant fight with Multiple Sclerosis. Nancy always blessed others with her intelligence and warm smile. She loved teaching and enjoyed her time in Florida and had most recently moved to be near her daughter. Nancy died on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at 6:40 p.m. at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, South Carolina with her loving family at her side. Nancy will be missed by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 49 Years, Aaron McDonald of Simpsonville; her beloved daughter, Victoria Claflin McDonald Cottle and her husband, Joseph Edward Cottle, Jr. of Greenville; her loving granddaughter, Katherine Taylor McDonald Cottle Alexander and her husband, Jeffrey Alexander; her adoring great grandchildren, Oliver Aaron Alexander and Lorelei Hazel Alexander. Preceded in death by her parents, Harold Louis "Beano" & Emma Margaret Claflin Davis, and sister, Mary Anne Davis "Bird" Potter. Mass Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 11am, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in Madison, Indiana. Interment: Springdale Cemetery, Visitation: Tuesday 4-6 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana.
