Nancy Ann Thayer Jennings died on August 13, 2023. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larkin Hamilton Jennings III. She is survived by two sons: Larkin H. Jennings IV, his wife Debbie, of Greenville; Henry Thayer Jennings, his wife Shannon, of Beech Island, SC; two grandchildren, Christopher Adam Jennings (Mary Gage) and Courtney Jennings Turner (Clay); and three great grandchildren.
The daughter of Carolina L. and Henry K. Thayer, Nancy graduated valedictorian from Greenwood High School, and was an honor graduate of Converse College. Mrs. Jennings was a lifetime Episcopalian and a communicant of Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville where she served on the Altar Guild and taught Sunday School. She also taught primary grades in public schools and at Christ Church Episcopal School. She enjoyed membership in the Hessie Morrah Garden Club, the Junior League of Greenville, the Star Fort Chapter of the DAR, and The Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina.
Precious were times with family and friends. With a genuine smile, warm personality and empathy for others, she was the "go to" person in any situation. Animals, especially strays, held an enduring place in her heart; Jennings' pets were usually three dogs and a cat. A lifelong lover of the outdoors and all nature, she believed in preserving lands and wildlife; she was a strong supporter of The Nature Conservancy and the Edisto Island Open Land Trust.
Nancy cherished times with grandchildren and great grandchildren; nature walks, treasure hunts, picnics in the woods or fields and finding shark's teeth were special adventures.
Services will be held in the Markley Chapel of Christ Church Episcopal at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 17th preceded by a private family burial in the churchyard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church Episcopal, 10 N. Church St., Greenville, SC, 29601; or to the Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Rd., Greenville, SC, 29607.
