Nancy Hicks Nelson was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1947 and died in College Station, Texas on November 29, 2023. She was the eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George and Betty Hicks.
Nancy, a longtime resident of Overton, Texas, grew up in Pascagoula, Mississippi and graduated from Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. She received her BS and MS from Mississippi University for Women. Nancy taught high school science in Mississippi, Georgia, and Texas. She was employed by Henderson ISD, Chapel Hill ISD, and Kilgore College while in Texas.
Nancy married the love of her life, Dr. Lloyd Nelson, on December 29, 1969. Through Lloyd's work, they lived in Georgia and Texas. She and Lloyd made numerous international trips related to his research with Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Overton and College Station. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Lora Domingue and her husband, David of Frisco; her son Adam Nelson and his wife, Kristen of Virgina; daughter Sara Lake and her husband, Justin of College Station; her granddaughters, Christina, Sophia, and Aubrey; and her grandsons Bryson, Jacob, Ryan, and Kason. She is also survived by her sisters Jane and her husband Tom, Mary and her husband Joe, Nina and her husband Joe, and Lora (Bitsy) and her husband Andy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nancy was a great baker, a Master Gardener, and doted on her grandchildren. She volunteered at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, Greens Prairie Elementary School, Crestview Nursing Home, and was a docent at the George Bush Presidential Library. She was a Paul Harris Fellow with the Aggieland Rotary Club. She was also very active in her church circle at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.

A Visitation is set for Friday, November 15 from 5 to 7PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 2901 Texas Avenue South, College Station, TX 77845. Life celebration services will be December 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church at 1001 Woodcreek Dr., College Station, Texas.
