Nancy Ann Crabtree was born September 15, 1933 in Dallas, Texas. Adopted at birth by Hampton and Freida Cratbree. Nancy graduated from Hockaday School in Dallas and the University of Texas in Austin, where she studied French and Spanish and joined Delta Gamma sorority. At age 22, she married Gregory Joseph Herrman and moved to Hays, Kansas where he practiced law with his father. They had six children in 9 years. She was active in the local art community and country club, Daughters of Isabella, City Beautification committee and St Joseph's Catholic Church. In 1968, Nancy moved the family to Athens, Texas where her mother then lived; she studied sculpture and art history and upon graduation from University of Dallas, taught art at Henderson County Junior College. Working for 3 years she completed a 13 foot sculpture of St. Francis, which she then donated to St. Edward's Catholic Church where she was president of the altar society. She also opened the first art gallery after renovating a historic building off of the town square. As her children grew-up and her mother retired, she moved back to Dallas to take-over the family business: Crabtree-Herrman Properties, specializing in large residential properties in east Dallas, particularly historic Swiss Ave, where she grew up. She was active in the Dallas Art Museum, Hockaday Alumni Association, Symphony Auxiliary League, Dallas Southern Memorial, Les Femmes Du Monde, Salvation Army Auxiliary, Lakewood Country Club and St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Throughout her life, she donated to many civic organizations and charities, such as Boys Town in Nebraska, The Humane Society, Catholic Charities and The Red Cross. She was politically active in The Republican Party and donated to many local and national causes. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a devoted catholic and dedicated artist who traveled often to Europe to study. She was indeed loved and admired by many. She died April 11th. Funeral services were held at Cavalry Hill Cemetery in Dallas. The family plans a Memorial Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas and reception at Lakewood Country Club later this summer. Nancy is survived by 5 children: Mary Loqullo, Elizabeth, Greg, Chris and David; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
