Nancy Ellen Duffus (n?e Rooney), 76, transitioned peacefully on February 26, 2022 surrounded by her three children in Radford, VA. Born in Bronx, NY, September 21, 1945, she was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence James Rooney and Mary Agnes (n?e Carque') of West Saugerties, New York.
Survivors include her children, Colin Duffus (Elizabeth) of Port Jervis, NY, Katie Newman (James) of Radford, VA, and Kara Duffus of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Adri, Annabella, Winter, and Walker; sister, Mary Jane Mosier of Harrington Park, NJ; father of her children, Robert Duffus, Jr. Palm Coast, FL; lifelong friends and tribe at Lindgren School in Closter, NJ; and many other relatives and friends.
Highlights of Nancy's life that brought her joy in reflection... Dumont H.S. graduate. Living in San Francisco during the 60's with her sister Jane and friend Diane, working at U.S. News and World Report in Manhattan during the blackout of '65, Teaching at Lindgren School for 40 years, spending many years of her youth and retirement in the Catskill Mountains of West Saugerties/Woodstock NY, road trips, train trips, all her wonderful friends, raising a family of three children, four grandchildren, and many grand-dogs!
"Mountain Mama" was a naturalist at heart; she loved the sunshine on her face, the fresh mountain air, the ocean sand at her feet, the rustling of the leaves in the trees, swimming in the "Big Deep", the rushing rivers that roar, and nature's finest creatures.
Nancy was a true rolling stone and free spirit spending the last years of her life traveling from New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and California to visit her children, grandchildren, and friends! Always living in the moment, she lived life on her own terms, she had no regrets and absolutely loved her life...no exceptions.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 18th, 4pm at Lindgren School in Closter, NJ. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to [email protected].
