Nancy Johnson Cohen, 76, of Wilmington, NC passed away on December 12, 2021, peacefully at home after several years courageously managing Leukemia. She brought cheer and helpfulness to everyone she knew. Nancy was born on May 4, 1945, to the late Erling and Evelyn Johnson in Worcester, MA. She was an elementary school teacher and an enthusiastic folk artist, making painted pieces and furniture in several different folk art styles. She both created and taught folk art for many years. Nancy also taught religious school (Jewish) for several years as her children matured in Bowie, MD and in Belle Mead, NJ. Nancy and Jordan also lived in Yorktown Heights, NY, Gloucester, MA, and Half Moon Bay, CA, finally ending up in Kure Beach and Wilmington. Nancy was very active in The Island Women and the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project. Of late, Nancy and her husband, Jordan were members of several wine tasting groups and enjoyed international travel, exploring the world at large and making many international friends and acquaintances. She was a member of the National and Local chapters of the Society of Decorative Painters and a Life Member of Hadassah. Nancy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jordan Cohen; children, Heather Fleming and her husband, Tim of Edgewood, NM and her grandchildren Kyra and Mina Fleming; and Todd Cohen and his partners Lex Rader and Joel Burdick, of Madison, NC.
