Nancy Clark (n?e Kugel), 75, of Charles Town, WV passed away on March 14, 2021 at Berkeley Medical Center. She was born on May 8, 1945 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Thomas L. and Mary Jane (Meeker) Kugel.
Nancy graduated from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD, Class of 1963, and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Brigham Young University in 1967. Thereafter, she proudly became a social worker with the American Red Cross, working for 7 years within the United States at military hospitals throughout the country, and abroad, serving during the Vietnam War in the US Army 3rd Field Hospital in Saigon and Da Nang from 1969-1970, and Frankfurt, Germany, where in 1971, she met the Army soldier who would become her loving husband of 48 years, William "Bill" Clark.
Throughout her life, Nancy diligently continued to serve as a social worker, often informally. She worked as a school bus driver for Fairfax County Public Schools so her schedule would allow her to be home to care for her children and be the neighborhood "mom", always looking after others as she would her own. After retiring, she continued working alongside several of her children within Science Applications International Corporation, where she was the unforgettable welcoming face warmly greeting its visitors. She also served within many volunteer roles assisting others in need within her church, neighborhood and community. She loved to socialize and bring out the best in others with an ever present optimism and zest for life. She also adored children, who likewise gravitated to her kind and gentle spirit. She had a gift for being a comforting beacon to others her entire life.
Nancy was a master artist in many forms, including sewing, quilting and knitting. She worked many side jobs in her favorite fabric stores as she fueled her love to create and help others do the same. She crafted countless incredible works of art for her family and friends over the years and her creative, elegant pieces will be cherished for generations.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Timothy Kugel. Surviving in addition to her husband, Bill, are her son, William J. Clark and his wife, Shae of Summerville, SC; son, Matthew D. Clark of Charles Town, WV; daughter, Jennie R. Brackens and her husband Kevin of Charles Town, WV; son, Christopher M.
