Myrna Jean Gabriel, aged 88 of Logan, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Embassy of Logan .
Born July 7, 1936 in Lancaster, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lester Calvin and Frances Waveline (Poling) Derr.
Myrna was a 1954 graduate of Logan High School. She spent most of her life in retail, working for Elberfeld's and Sears. Later, she began working for the former Citizens Bank of Logan (Merchants National Bank). She began as a teller, working her way up to staff officer and then loan officer, specializing in public relations IRA new accounts. In 2001, Myrna retired as Assistant Vice President. Myrna was co-founder of the Alumni Band, serving on the board of trustees and marching every two years. She was also an organizer for the Alumni Family Day. Along with her husband and many other alumni members, she would welcome back many former students and classes having reunions to a picnic in the park. Myrna was also a former member of Logan BPW (Business of Professional Women) and the Chieftain Squaws- a women's booster club raising money for the Logan High School athletic department for sports. She was also a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Logan, Ohio and a former member of Women of the Moose Auxiliary.
Myrna is survived by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Albert Gabriel; son, Steven E. (Peggy) Shaw of Marysville, Ohio; daughter, Pamela J. (Mike) Dailey of The Plains, Ohio; four grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda) Shaw of Marysville, Ohio, Bradley (Dr. Brandi) Hartley of Louisville, Kentucky, Jill (Dan) Pittman of The Plains, Ohio, and Shelby (Caleb) Hubbard of Sanford, North Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Avery and Logan Mason, Grady Shaw, Isla Hartley, Ezra Pittman, and Opal Hubbard.; one brother, Gerald "Gary" L. (Connie) Derr of Piedmont, South Carolina; three stepchildren, Sherry Doughty of Lancaster, Ohio, Kim (Mark Brown) Gabriel of Newburgh, New York, and Jerry (Jennifer) Gabriel Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia; and 3 step-grandchildren, Adam (Karen) Doughty of Pataskala, Ohio, Bill (Hillary) Doughty of South Carolina; and step great-granddaughter, Sophia Doughty.
Besides her parents, Myrna was preceded in death by her son, David Wayne Shaw; grandparents, Henry and Daisy Derr; brother, David and Margie Derr; nephew, Michael Derr; niece, Lisa Kay Derr; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Kaupinski Shaw.
A funeral service officiated by Lay Worship Leader James M. Kalklosch will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 2, 2024 at the Roberts Funeral Home in Logan, Ohio. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Logan, Ohio.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the Roberts Funeral Home.
