Myrhline Wood "Mickie" Frankum was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully at a nursing facility in Rome, GA on June 20th at the age of 85.
Mickie was born on September 1, 1935, in Athens, GA to the late Mary Lucille Close Wood and Carl Herman Wood. In addition to her parents, Mickie is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Frankum, and by a sister, Janice Morgan.
After attending Georgia Baptist School of Nursing, Mickie spent more than forty years serving as a Registered Nurse. Her specialty was emergency services, which fit her personality well...always helpful in any sort of emergency. She retired from Redmond Regional Medical Center Occupational Health Department where she made many special friends.
Mickie was unconventional in many ways. While her Christian faith was unwavering, she preferred to worship from her back deck, among nature and her beloved cats, and away from unnecessary small talk. She could sew an outfit and build just about anything she attempted as she had more power tools than most men. She had a strong work ethic and had little patience for those who didn't. She was a loyal pit crew volunteer to her family and friends who participated in equine endurance racing, and was a skilled driver of trucks, trailers and tractors. She had a tender heart for the downtrodden and homeless pets. She was a loyal friend and especially loved spending time with her family.
Mickie is survived by her children, Allison Watters (Ed), Rome, and Craig Smith (Lisa), Cumming; her grandchildren, Lilia Smith, Lleyton Smith, Grace Watters, and Ivy Watters; her stepchildren, Sandra Frankum, Jeff Frankum (Liz), and Doug Frankum (Sandy); her step grandchildren, Greg Frankum, Aaron Eady, Brian Frankum, Laura Penn, Cody Frankum, Travis Frankum, Ashley Whitmore and Lauren Whitmore; her siblings, Dorothy Gentry, Margaret Peck, and Tommy Wood; numerous nephews, nieces, and special friends.
A memorial service and reception will be held at the Pavilion at the Lock & Dam Park, 181 Lock & Dam Road, on Sunday, June 27th at 3:00 pm, with her brother, Dr. Tommy Wood, officiating. Casual attire is encouraged as Mickie would have wanted.
In memory of Mickie, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity.
