Muriel E. Crittenden, of Manchester, NH, passed peacefully on December 27, 2020, at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH living to the remarkable age of 100. She retained a joyful interest in life & her Irish sense of humor, to the end never accepting her advanced age. She was born in Limerick, Maine in 1920 & spent her childhood in Pawtucket, RI, Wilton, NH & Utica, NY. Growing up during the depression & WWII, instilled in her life long values. She learned to play the violin & loved music & dance especially during the '40s. While working as a telephone operator at Quanset Point Naval Air Station, she met & fell in love with her future US Marine husband, Cecil. Her family was always her main focus as she nurtured her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with the help of her husband, mother and precious Aunt Mamie. When her children were out of school, she went back to full time work at the phone company. During those twenty years as a telephone operator, she delighted in dressing fashionably with bargains from Jordan Marsh, Filene's & later, at TJ Max.
She enjoyed growing her roses, flowers & especially, her favorite delicious tomatoes.
At 94, after living in Manchester for seventy years, she went to live at Laurel Place Assisted Living to be closer to her caring son, Gary. She really loved it there as the care was superior. As her memory faded, she always remembered that 'Ellen' was on at 4:00. She will be missed by everyone who touch her soul as she was always feisty, fun, & full of life.
Muriel is survived by her two sons, Gary & Carolyn of Hudson, NH; Brian & Jackie of No. Ft. Myers, FL; her x daughter in law, Denise Crittenden of Norfolk, VA; her two granddaughters, Lee-Anna Bruzga of Concord, NH; Shawna & Tracey Coyer of Merrimack, NH; her two great grandchildren Patrick & Chelsea Bruzga; nieces & nephews in Florida & Tennessee.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil, & her sister, Ruth.
Her family extends a huge amount of gratitude to staff at Laurel Place & Fairview for all their constant diligent & skilled care who value kindness above all else.
