Mr. Walter Joseph "Joe" Wilson, 83, beloved husband of Mrs. Marie McKinney Wilson, entered into rest on Friday, August 26, 2022 at his home.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, August 31, 2022, from 6 until 8 at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC 29829. The family will greet friends on Thursday, September 1, 2022, beginning at 12 o'clock at Curtis Baptist Church, Augusta, GA followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1 o'clock. Pastor Mark Sterling and Pastor John Bryan officiate the service. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Pallbearers will be Jimmy McKinney, Brooks Whaley, Joshua Adkison, Phillip Whaley, Daniel Whaley, Cameron Epting, Jack Simon, and Torrian Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be the Gideons International North Augusta and Edgefield Camp.
Mr. Wilson was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Roy Edgar Wilson and Ruth Perryman Wilson Burriss. He proudly and with honor served his country in the United States Air Force. He graduated from Clemson University with a Master's degree in Agricultural Education. He was an Ag teacher with thirty-three years of service at Aiken High School where he retired in 2007. Mr. Wilson was awarded the 1999 National Outstanding Agricultural Educator of the Southern States, the 2004 Aiken High School Teacher of the Year, and recognized for Outstanding Agricultural Education by the National Association of Agricultural Educators in 2004. In 2000, Aiken High School's agriculture program was awarded the Most Outstanding Program of Southern States under Joe Wilson's leadership. He was a member of the NAAE, the SCAAE, the Young Farmers, and a proud lifelong member of the FFA. He was a member of Curtis Baptist Church where he taught the single adult Sunday school class and sang in the choir. Mr. Joe was a faithful member of the Gideons International North Augusta and Edgefield Camp.
Left to cherish his memory with his wife of thirty-eight years are his children: Casey Wilson (Coty), of Aiken, SC, Todd Whaley (Sharon), of North Augusta, SC, Jan Adkison (Brian), of Warrenville, SC and Russell Whaley (Deborah), of Cypress, Texas; his sister, Rhonda Dorn (Mike), of Calhoun Falls, SC; nine grandchildren: Brooks Whaley (Sydney), Hannah Adkison, Rachel Whaley Epting (Cameron), Kendall Whaley, Joshua Adkison, Grace Whaley Simon (Jack), Phillip Whaley, Daniel Whaley, and Dallas Wilson; a great-granddaughter, Elliott Gray Epting and several loved niece
