West Point, MS - Mr. Luther Milton Ray, Sr., 91, passed away on January 16, 2022 at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.. Milton was born on August 16, 1930, in Webster County, the son of Luther Barrett and Nannie Peeples Ray. He worked at Babcock and Wilcox until his retirement. After his retirement, he still continued to work with Long Branch Fabricators. He was a steadfast and dedicated member of West End Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities, including Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. It would be nearly impossible to sum up the life of this man lovingly called Grandaddy by everyone. He loved his family, but most importantly, he loved the Lord. He married Frances Dixon Ray on June 4, 1949, in Webster County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray and four brothers, Octay, Willie, Vernon, and John Ray. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 18, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at Calvert Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 11:00 A.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Craven officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Ray of West Point: two sons, Junior Ray (Gail) and David Ray (Vicki), and daughter-in-law, Betty Ray Carpenter (Paul) all of West Point: seven grandchildren: Stephanie Craven (Chris), Erica Davidson (Marcus), Kimberly Allen (William), Kelly Ramsay (Will), Kathryn Hoffpauir (Clay), Caitlyn Walker, and Brandon Walker (Amanda), seventeen great-grandchildren, and a sister, Abby Rico of Eupora. Pallbearers will be William Allen, Will Ramsay, Marcus Davidson, Jaden Craven, John Ross Craven, Welton Davidson, and Barrett Allen.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Nephews, James Ewing, Co-Workers at Babcock and Wilcox, and Members at West End Baptist Church.
