Mourad Mankarios, 78, of South Surrey, BC, passed away peacefully on July 22nd surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with myelofibrosis.
Mourad was born in 1944 to Bechir and Bahgah in the bustling city of Alexandria, Egypt. He was a boy scout, musician and teacher. At the age of 21 he left Egypt for Canada with only a few dollars in his pocket. He worked tirelessly to establish himself in business, got married, and started a family. Mourad brought his family on a lifetime adventure that began in Canada and took them to Kuwait, Dubai, Holland and Singapore before settling into retirement in BC. Throughout that journey he became a prolific artist, amazing cook and maintained his love of music. In business he was a great leader and mentor. To his family and friends he was a wise and loving presence. He was a consummate host with a great sense of humor and was happiest when family and friends were gathered and sharing a meal. He had a lasting impact on many and will be greatly missed. Mourad lived his life with integrity, determination and resilience. His strong and enduring faith guided him throughout his life, and because of that truth, we know we will see him again.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Mourad continues to live through his loving wife of 55 years, Susan; three children, Christine and her partner Chris of Saint Catherines; Erik and his wife Melissa of San Jose; and Tracy and her husband Clint of Surrey; a brother Moheb and his wife Suzy of Mississauga; six grandchildren, Alexander and his wife Emily, Maxwell and his fiance Lauryn, Emma, Sophie, Ella, and Samuel; two great grandchildren, Emilio and Wilson; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mourad was predeceased by his parents, his sister Anasymon and his brother Moufid.
There will be a private burial at Park Lawn Cemetery in Toronto. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Canadian MPN Research Foundation.
