Monty Lee Wood was born on August 11, 1940 in Bellingham, WA.
He spent his formative years growing up in the Skagit Valley. Monty called PNW his home his entire life and declared it the most beautiful place in the world - he took full advantage of the boating, camping, and outdoor life offered here.
He was raised in Bow, WA and graduated Burlington Edison high school.
He worked at the farms from a young age and joined the Army serving in Korea.
He returned home and retired from Darigold Farms plant in Seattle, WA.
With his late wife, Elsie, they raised his four children in Bothell, WA.
They both graduated from Shoreline Community College with degrees by the GI bill.
After retiring from Darigold, he continued to work a second job for 5 more years.
They fulfilled his dream of taking his beloved boat, Lollipop, & golden retriever, RipTide, on a 3-month voyage via Strait of Juan de Fuca to Alaska. Monty wrote to Boating magazine about this adventure.
In 2007, they continued with his lifelong plan to build a dream home on their land in Anacortes, WA. This brought him as close as possible to the Lollipop, the San Juan & Gulf Islands which he and his family loved navigating and exploring.
Last April Monty was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, of 55 years. He is survived by his three daughters, son, and two sons-in-law: Darcy Lee Portrey Moussea of Bellingham; Aletha Marie Pinsoneault [John] of The Woodlands, TX; Anna-Diana Wood of Anacortes; Randy Lee Wood of Arizona. As well as nine grandchildren and his cherished brother Duane Wood of Bow, WA.
On February 12, 2022 Monty reunited with Elsie; and his parents Clarence and Jean. A three-year arduous battle from a CVA ended quickly with a facility wide Covid outbreak. Mass was held in his honor at St.Mary's Catholic Church, Anacortes, Thursday February 17th followed by a viewing.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, March 5th 11am at Evans Funeral Home Chapel - 1105 32nd St. Anacortes, WA. Following he will be laid to rest next to Elsie at Grandview Cemetery -411 Hill Crest Dr, Anacortes.
His family expresses heartfelt gratitude, & a tip of the cap to the staff at Soundview Care Center, Anacortes. These folks became an extension of his family over the past two grueling pandemic years. Their daily valiant efforts needs acknowledgment.
In the coming days during March Madness raise a glass in Salute for his prized Zags! Go Bulldogs!
