Montgomery "Monty" Roberts departed this life on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at his home after a hard fought two year battle with esophageal cancer. Monty was born July 25, 1935 to the late Elma Mullis Roberts and Lester Nolan Roberts in Griffin, Georgia. He attended Griffin High School where he excelled in football and track. Monty was later inducted into the Griffin Sports Hall of Fame. He was awarded a scholarship to South Georgia College, where he played football for Coach Bobby Bowden and later attended Tennessee Tech. Monty came from a long line of "Coca-Cola Men", including his grandfather, father, brother, uncle, great uncle and cousin. He started his career with Coca-Cola in the fountain sales division in Atlanta, Georgia. After being transferred to Knoxville, Tennessee, he also worked with the Pensacola, Florida Coca-Cola, Mobile, Alabama Coca-Cola and the Chattanooga, Tennessee Coca-Cola divisions before moving back to Knoxville and joining Roddy Coca-Cola where he spent twenty years. He later became President of Brinks Incorporated. He loved his work, and the people he met through the years as Monty rarely met a stranger. He served on the Board of Directors for many industry related organizations, including Retail Grocers Association, Tennessee Bottlers Association, National Soft Drink Association and Tennessee Food Processors Association. Monty also served as President of the Downtown Knoxville Rotary for several years. Monty loved playing golf and played many rounds on different courses throughout the United States. Monty was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gwen Roberts Anderson; brother-in-law, Sam Jack Anderson; brother, Ned Roberts; sister-in-law, Micki Gordon Roberts; nephew, Mark Anderson and son-in-law, Joe Ruzzene and several special aunts and uncles. Monty is survived his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Ann Miller Roberts; daughter, Cecilia "Ceci" Roberts Ruzzene; son, Matthew "Matt" Roberts; grandson, Alec Gregory Roberts; nieces, Bonnie Roberts and Luanne (Bob) Billstein; Clint Alderson and Lee Anderson and his special aunt, Bess Mullis Browning. Monty is also survived by great nieces and nephews, Laura Jo Alderson, Helen Anderson (Justin) Woolsey, Sara Wilder, Bill Wilder, Drew (Emily) Billstein, Devin Billstein, Courtney Billstein and Morgan Billstein.
