Monteray Beckham Jr. "Monty", age 79, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at his residence in Lea County. He was born on May 8, 1941 in Kermit, TX to Monteray "Sam" and Lela Patricia (Neville) Beckham. Monteray married Billie Jean Ferguson on November 24, 1961 in Jal and they spent 59 wonderful years together.
Monty was a member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed his ranching life and playing cards and dominos with his friends. Monty also enjoyed coaching Little League for his boys, and later watching his grandkids play sports. He served as a member of the Lea County Fair Board, the Board of the Woorworth Library Trust, and Lea County Road Board. Monty was awarded the Bureau of Land Management Conservation and Stuartship award. Family meant everything to him and he loved his children, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters dearly. He will be greatly missed.
Monty is survived by his wife: Billie Jean Beckham of Jal, NM; sons: Brad Beckham and wife Melody of Jal, NM and Brian Beckham and wife Kim of Austin, TX; brother: Keith Beckham and wife Jennifer of Jal, NM; sisters: Sammie Burchard of Denver City, TX, Mary Russell and husband Eddie of Carrolton, TX, and Liz Sanders and husband Dave of Portales, NM; grandchildren: Cole Beckham and wife Valerye, Ryan Beckham, Riley Beckham, and Kenzie Beckham; great-grandchild: Madison Beckham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Monteray and Lela Beckham, and brother-in-law: Bobby Burchard
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm MST on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Jal Church of Christ in Jal, NM officiated by Larry Roberts and Daryl Micham. Pallbearers will include: Cole Beckham, Ryan Beckham, Riley Beckham, Dru Sanders, Dave Sanders, and Shawn Burchard. Honorary Pallbearers are: Don Todd, Don McCombs, Jerry Sturman, Ronnie McCravey, and Johnny Mack Owen. Burial will follow at Jal Cemetery.
