Mona Gail (Buttke) Visto, 79, of Guelph, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on May 5th after a brief illness. Mona was born in Oakes, ND on January 12, 1944 to Keith and Violet (Pedersen) Buttke. Her family made their home in Crete, ND. Mona attended Crete school until it closed and then transferred to high school in Oakes, ND. She is a 1961 Graduate of Oakes High School and went on to receive a business secretarial degree.
On November 23rd, 1963, Mona was united in marriage to Marshall J. Visto of Guelph, ND at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hecla, SD. The couple became members of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Oakes in 1974. Marshall was injured in a single vehicle accident in 1976 that left him paralyzed which required Mona to step into the caregiver role in addition to spouse. Marshall spent 38 years as a quadriplegic- an astounding accomplishment that can only be explained by Mona and her relentless vigilance in keeping him healthy. She and Marshall celebrated more than 50 years of marriage before his death in 2014. Mona was also active for many years in the local bowling league and enjoyed volunteering at the Dickey County Historical Museum in Oakes. She also spent hundreds of hours gathering genealogy details of both the Visto and Buttke families, dating back many generations. Once she accomplished that task, she set out to research and document genealogy for many other families over the years.
Mona is survived by her children: Marty (Deanne) of Guelph; Melissa (Todd) Palmer, of Broomfield, CO; and Micheal (Wendy) of Ellendale, ND; a brother: Brad (Tiffany) Buttke of Oakes; 3 sisters-in-law: Diane (Wesley) Orr of Ennis, MT, Edith (James) Davis of El Paso, TX; and Jane Visto McCabe of Fargo, ND; 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall; parents, Keith and Violet Buttke; daughter, Michele; brothers, Wade Buttke and Kent Buttke; brothers-in-law, Wesley Orr and Marvin Visto; and nephew, Kristopher (Marvin & Jane) Visto.
