Mollie Melva (Morse) Nickelson, 93, of Bozeman Montana passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 24, 2025. Mollie was born December 20, 1931 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Russell Wright and Melva Evelyn (Griffin) Morse.
Mollie grew up in Minneapolis and came to Bozeman to attend college. She met Robert "Nick" at Montana State College. They were married at St. James Episcopal Church in Bozeman on August 23, 1952. They moved back to Minneapolis while Nick attended graduate school. They returned to Bozeman and raised their family there. They lived in the same house up Hyalite Canyon until moving into the Bozeman Lodge just over six years ago.
Mollie was active as a leader in 4H. She was instrumental in bringing Planned Parenthood to Bozeman. And volunteered whenever asked at schools and church. She and her husband loved traveling and participating in Elder Hostels around the world. They took many of their grandchildren on Elder Hostel trips. Mollie especially loved sewing and making gifts for her family. She was an active member of St. James her entire life. Family and faith were what she held the most dear to her.
She is survived by her loving husband Robert "Nick" Leland Nickelson of over 72 years; her daughter Meta Smith and her husband Doran Smith (Bozeman, MT); her daughter Ellen Halamuda and her husband Jerry Halamuda (Poway, CA); her son David Nickelson and his wife Reva Nickelson (Coeur D'Alene, ID); her son Charles Nickelson and his wife Imke Nickelson (Durham, NC); her son James Nickelson and his wife Susan Nickelson (Bozeman, MT); 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Russell Morse.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. James Episcopal Church in Bozeman, MT with lunch following in the parish hall.
