The family of MIRIAM C. SPENCE, 96, announces with great sorrow her transitioning to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 22, 2021 in Villa Rica, Georgia. A resident of Pensacola, Florida since 1956, she recently moved to Georgia to reside with her daughter and son-in-law. Miriam Spence was born in Macon, Georgia on May 17,1925 and was the youngest child of five. She loved and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and after moving to Pensacola she became an active, long-time member of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church. She graduated from Ballard Normal High School in 1943 in Macon, Georgia, attended Morris Brown College in 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia, received her B.S. degree, with honors, from Florida A&M University in Library Science in 1966 in Tallahassee, Florida and a Master of Science Degree in Counseling and Human Development in 1977 from Troy State University in Troy, Alabama. Miriam was an exceptional educator in the Pensacola community for over 25 years and retired from the Escambia County School District in 1990. She absolutely loved working with children and was very active in the community. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority since 1970, lifetime member of the NAACP and numerous other organizations. Funeral arrangements are being held with the Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel, 1312 South Park Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117 on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M., EST. The final interment will be with the Middle Georgia Memory Gardens in Macon, Georgia. In memory of Delta Soror, Miriam C. Spence, monetary donations can be made to the Pensacola Alumnae Chapter Scholarship Fund.
