Milton "Keith" Starr, Dept. Chief HCFD (ret.), devoted father, husband and brother, slipped quietly into eternal rest on February 20, 2021. He was able to have his wife and son by his side.
Keith was born on November 2, 1955, in Griffin GA to Harris and Joyce (Rodgers) Starr. He graduated from Griffin High School in 1974 prior to joining the Fire Department in 1976. After 29 years of serving in many different capacities, his last and most enjoyable title was that of Deputy Chief, where he could be hands on, and have direct influence over, the EMS department which was his passion. He served in that capacity for 15 years before his retirement.
After retirement, he served as a supervisor for the H.E.R.O unit for eight years. He is also a pastmaster of Fraternal Lodge #37 and faithfully served his church as a member of the Board of Stewards for many years.
Keith will be greatly missed by his wife of 41+ years, Martha Elaine Colson Starr; son Mr. Michael Collins and son and daughter in law, Mr. Chris Starr and Dr. Kathryn Porter Starr of Hillsborough, NC; brother, Samuel Starr of Rome GA; and countless other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Joyce; and grandmother, Daisy Rodgers.
His children are grateful to have been taught many important life lessons, including the importance of devotion, the ability to help and relate to people, and to do things "Keith's way". Among several other things, he will be remembered for his dedication to God and family, his outspoken nature and, perhaps most importantly, his compassionate care for anyone who ever needed him.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors.
