Milton L. Hysjulien of Chaska MN passed away on November 3, 2024 at the age of 87. Milton was born on April 5, 1937 in Fergus Falls MN, where he grew up and graduated high school in 1956 after winning numerous varsity letters in sports.
Milt graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1960 with a bachelor's degree and later completed a master's degree at St Cloud State University.
Milt worked as Media Specialist first in Hector MN and then moved to Champlin MN with his wife, Nellie, in 1965 where he then worked for 36 years in the Anoka Hennepin School district moving from Elementary, Junior and Senior High School positions before retiring in 1996. He enjoyed his time in Elementary the most.
Milt was actively involved in church, in golf and as an avid fan of all MN sports - particularly the Twins. His biggest passion was his family, and he was so proud to be grandfather to nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
Milt was preceded in death by his father Melvin, mother Marie, and sisters Joyce, Geneal, and Pat.
Milt is survived by his wife of 63 years Nellie Greiner Hysjulien, children Todd Hysjulien, Sara Russick (David), and Beth Sulciner, and nine grandchildren who were the joy of his life: Maggie Hysjulien Christ, Nick Hysjulien Spencer Hysjulien, Sam Schilling, Lilli Russick, Claire Russick, Emma Sulciner, Amelia Sulciner and Charlie Sulciner. A special blessing late in life was his great grandson, Dexter Christ born in July 2022.
Milt touched many lives, met new friends wherever he went, and always had a story to tell. In 1961 after completing the school year teaching in Hector he went home to Fergus with the only thing on his mind being to compete for the state town ball baseball championship and the carousing that typically accompanies such an endeavor. Instead, he married Nellie Greiner (Fergus Falls class of 1957) in August in Elizabeth MN and brought her back to Hector and began a life together where, for more than 63 years, they were never separated for more than a couple of days at a time. Nellie's family, particularly her brothers Bob and Dave along with endless cousins quickly became part of Milt's family. His many friendships could not be accurately counted, but a true account of his life cannot fail to mention Sheldon Fossen, Bobb (Andy) Anderson and Ed Engels along with their families. As each of them passed away, a part of Milt did too.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Mound MN, on Wednesday, December 3rd at 11:00. All are welcomed to stay for a luncheon at the church following the service. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00.
