Mildred Louise Hickman, longtime Boise resident, passed away on December 30, 2021 at the age of 94 following a brief illness.
Mildred was born October 8, 1927 in Parma, Idaho to Foster Miller Harshman and Bertha Johanna Roedel. She was the 10th of 18 children. Mildred graduated from Wilder High School in 1945. She married Vincent Hickman in 1949. Together they raised 5 children: Leo, Carol, Nina, Lloyd and Vern. Vincent passed away in 2002, after celebrating 52 years of marriage.
Mildred was an accomplished china painter, and over the years, her entries in the Western Idaho Fair brought her numerous awards. During that time, she worked in the ceramic and china departments at the Fair for 43 years. She was a founding member and Past President of the Southwest Idaho China Painter's Association. Mildred was a volunteer for the Boise Neighborhood Watch program for more than 11 years and greeted neighbors and made newcomers feel welcome. Her hobbies included gardening (especially flowers), scrapbooking, crafts and crochet. Mildred was an active member of the Whitney Baptist Church in Boise for many years.
Mildred was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband, 12 siblings and an infant son. She is survived by her children, Leo (Kathy) Hickman, Carol (Larry) Hertling, Nina (Dan) Webster, Lloyd (Karen) Hickman, Vern (Karen) Hickman, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be private due to Covid restrictions. A video of the services will be posted on January 7. Check for the link on www.cloverdalefuneralhome.com website. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a favorite charity.
