Michael Donn "Mike" Price, 76, died Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Generations Senior Living in Saltillo, MS. Mike was born on August 16, 1947 to the late Elwood Brody Price and Ruby Clytee Cook Price in Tupelo, MS. Mike was a lifelong resident of Lee County. He was a lifelong learner starting with his High School career at Mantachie High School. After graduating from Mantachie, he went on to continue his education at Southern Baptist College, Itawamba Community College, Ole Miss, Delta State, Mississippi State, and University of Southern Mississippi. He earned his Master degree and Specialist Degree in education. His teaching career was extensive. He was with the National Teacher Corporation for 2 years at Olive Branch, 2 years at the Natchez MS School system, and 4 years as a counselor at Lee County Schools at Saltillo High School. Mike then began his long and distinguished career at Itawamba Community College retiring in 2011 after 34 years of service. At ICC, he was the testing coordinator, taught the GED program at night, and was a counselor. Mike also worked at Dreifus Jewelers and was a tour guide for Trailways.
Mike loved gardening and his flowers. He loved to travel anywhere with retired friends from church or ICC. He enjoyed the Older Adult SS class at First Baptist Church Tupelo. He loved studying the Bible, especially the topic of Heaven. He visited the Holy Land several times and the experiences made the Bible come to life in his life. He loved being a dad but he delighted and counted it pure joy to be a Pops to his two grandchildren. He loved his dog Bailey. Mike was a people person, had a fun loving personality, and made a difference in the many lives he touched during his earthly pilgrimage.
A service celebrating Mike's Life will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 2 PM in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Bro. Rickey Young and Bro. David Laman officiating. Private burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Itawamba Co. The family will receive friends from 12 PM until service time Saturday only at the funeral home. For those unable to attend the service will be livestreamed at www.hollandfuneraldirectors.com/live-streaming starting at 2 PM and archived thereafter.
Mike is survived by his two daughters, Allison Price Dudding of Tupelo, and Ashley Price Staggs of Southaven; two grandchildren, Emma Grace Dudding and Shepard J. Staggs; niece, Maria Price Hutcheson of Blue Springs; nephew, Jon Price of Saltillo; special cousin, Joyce McCullough Bell of Little Rock, AR; special second mother, Evelyn Hill of Unity, MS; and the mother of his children, Vickie Hubler Price of Southaven. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Randy D. Price; and two best friends, Van Craft and Ike McCarter.
Pallbearers will be Lance Hollis, Dave Thomas, Jon Price, Tyler Hutchison, Prentiss Turner, Brent McCarter, Ramona Edge, and David McCullough.
