Mike Carpenter went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 29, 2024. Mike is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie, daughter Karen Kallis (Mark), daughter Ginger Haberle (Fred), daughter Wendi Carpenter and sister, Martha Wert. A celebration of life will be held in the chapel of Marvin Methodist Church on Thursday, April 4th at 2:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers are the Tuesday Noon Men's Bible Study.
Mike was born January 17, 1936, in Poplarville, Mississippi. Mike was popular in high school and played center on the football team. After graduating high school, he attended Pearl River Junior College. He later transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating in 1958. That same year, he and Billie married.
Mike worked for Shell Oil Company for 38 1/2 years. Although his career involved travel, he remained very active in his community. He was a member of the Rotary Club where he was twice awarded Rotarian of the Year and was a double Paul Harris Fellow.
Mike and Billie moved to Tyler to be closer to family in their golden years. They had not expected such a welcoming community highlighted by the fellowship they found at Marvin Methodist Church. Mike's Tuesday Noon Men's Bible Study was a highlight of his week. The friendships he forged were seamless and natural. They were like old friends, just new faces in a new place that seemed so familiar.
Mike passed peacefully while working in the garden of his and Billie's home. He was found amongst the azaleas he was so proud of. He will be cherished and missed by his family, his friends, and all those who came to know and love him over the many happy years of his life.
