Michael T. Wajda, 65, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at home with the presence of loved ones after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on October 2, 1954, he was a son of the late Casimer and Sophie (Semesi) Wajda. He was a graduate of W-B Township High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Penn State University. On October 16, 1976, he was united in marriage to his beloved best friend, the late Kathleen Marie Hughes, also of W-B Twp. They then moved to Chambersburg, PA for several years and then ultimately moved to Rome, NY for his career.
He had a successful 35-years of federal service, 14 of that at DFAS, retiring as a supervisory accountant in 2010.
He was a strong affiliate and spirited volunteer of St. Paul's Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Slovak Catholic Sokol. He loved to hunt and fish, especially at the family cabin in Vosburg, PA, and frequently used the cabin for family gatherings. Since he has a rare blood type, he took pride in donating regularly to the American Red Cross. He also kept in touch with many life long friends. He always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren.
Michael is survived by; a son, Christopher Wajda of Madison, NY; a daughter and son-in-law Laurel and Christopher Tibbits of Rome; a sister, Kathy Herr of Pine Grove Mills, PA; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Christine Wajda of Sacramento, CA; three cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Lincoln and Cora; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. He will be laid to rest at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Courtdale, PA.
