Michael William Versaci passed away peacefully in his home in Woodstock, Georgia after a long fight with spinal cancer on November 3rd, 2021 at 9:30 pm at the age of 64. Michael, universally known as Mike, was born on June 11, 1957, in Glen Cove, New York, the youngest son of the late Theresa (n?e Cassara) and Louis Versaci. He grew up on Long Island with his brothers, graduating from Glen Cove High School in 1975 and going on to attend Adelphi University where he graduated with a BA in Psychology in 1979. Mike worked in software development for most of his life where he was a highly regarded software trainer, ultimately moving his family to the suburbs of Atlanta where he raised his three children alongside three step-children with his wife of 21 years, Connie Dufford, whom he adored. He was a devoted father and doting papa to his grandchildren, taking immense pleasure in the time the family was able to spend together, including several big family vacations to one of his favorite destinations, Disney World. Mike had a lifelong love of music and played the bass guitar in many bands throughout his life, continuing to play local gigs in spite of his cancer diagnosis. He had a penchant for trivia and was quite knowledgeable about the music industry, participating online for many years in the XTC fan group Chalkhills, consulting on books about The Beatles, and enjoying many friendships around the world with industry professionals and aficionados alike. Mike never knew a stranger and enriched the lives of everyone he met, maintaining many life-long friendships despite time and distance - though he would be quick to tell you that he was the lucky one. Mike is survived by his wife, Connie Dufford, originally from Hermitage, PA, as well as their shared children Kacie Versaci and husband Preston White of Newark, DE; Cheyenne Versaci of Atlanta, GA; Veronica Versaci of Atlanta, GA; Taylor and husband Korey Kolberg of Centennial, CO; Emma and husband Bradley Handziuk of Englewood, CO; George McConnell III and fiancee Breanna Gambino of Jasper, GA; as well as his five beloved grandchildren: Izora, Orin, and Zelda Kolberg; Sally Handziuk; and Freya McConnell.
He also leaves behind brothers Sam (Rinny) Versaci and companion Shauna of Wintergarden, FL; Louis (Sid) and wife Julia Versaci of Marietta, GA; an uncle raised alongside him as a brother, Anthony (Tony) and wife Wendy Cassara of Texas; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 13 at 10:00 am with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 pm at Lakeside Funeral Home 121 Claremore Drive Woodstock, GA 30188.
