TERRY, Michael Joseph("Michael"), age 82, of Hinesville, Georgia,passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022. Bornin St. Louis, Missouri,on February 8, 1939, he is one of four children of the late Lockett Terry and Mary Elizabeth (Mitchell) Terry. At age seventeen, hejoined the United States Army. His military servicetookhim to Oakdale, Louisiana, where he met and was united in holy matrimony in 1963 to his loving wife of 58 years, Mrs. Fay Lee (Metoyer) Terry.
After twenty years of military service, he retired from the U.S. Army at Fort Stewart, Georgia in 1977 at the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC) and made Hinesville, Georgia, his home. In addition to military service, his professional career included serving as Chief of Services forWinn Army Community Hospital at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and the U.S. Army Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany. After a second retirement from civil service, he and his wife became the proud co-owners of the Village Children's Learning Center, where they cared for a multitude of infants and children over the span of twenty years --until his third retirement at the age of 80.
Within a year ofmilitaryretirement, he and his family joined Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he served faithfully for over forty years.His service to God includedsinging in the"original"Gospel Choir,Male Choir,andSenior/Gospel Choir; andserving as aChurchTrustee and formerChairman of the TrusteeBoard,a member oftheCouples'Ministry,andamember of the Sons of Allen Ministry.Bro. Terry'slovefor hischurchfamily andhomealsocanbe seen throughhis contributions to the church facilityas well asthroughhis writing,support andproduction ofvariousplays and performancesover the years.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Terry, and parents Lockett and Mary Elizabeth Terry. He is survived by his sweetheart and wife, Fay;sisters, Shirley, Magnolia, and Lillian; children, Michael, Jr., Sarah Elizabeth (Harold),BryfordAndre' (Jutta),Delgardo(Mary),TaffanyeMichel,Michael Joseph III (Shanda),T'Challa; grandchildren,Latoshia(Andrew), Josiah (Elizabeth), Nathan, Selena, Michael, Christian, Cameron, Brandon,MascoloJustyce, Noah (Heaven), Lauren, Taylor, and David; great-grandchildren,Aniah,Krislynn, and Joshua; and a host of relatives and friends.
The family expressesdeep appreciationfor all the wonderful expressions of love, friendship, and comfort shown duringtheir time of bereavement.
Funeral services will be held at11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, atBethel A.M.E. Church, 233GauseStreet, Hinesville, Georgia,with Reverend Debra Hall-Chaney, Pastor,officiating. The family will receive friends from5p.m. to7p.m.on Friday, February 11, 2022,atthe Dorchester Funeral Home, 7842East Oglethorpe Highway, Midway, Georgia.
