Friends and family are mourning the passing of Michael George Sabia, Jr 4/24/1944 to 6/ 7/2024.
Mike Attained a BA in Mathematics from Westchester State College, a Masters' in Computer Science and 60 additional post grad credits in Education. Mike will be remembered by many as a favorite teacher of High School Algebra , Geometry, Computer Science, PreCalc, and Calculus. Additionally, his contributions such as creating a timesaving program to assist Special Ed teachers to write IEPs, as well as successful work in teachers' contract negotiations with the Wissachickon Education Association endeared him to many. A man of many skills, Mike is also remembered for his love of architecture, especially that of Frank Lloyd Wright. He enjoyed professionally building beautiful homes and housing developments in PA.Mike's life-long love of sports includes years of competitive swimming, basketball, football, paintball with his son, and a wicked tennis game, as well as successfully coaching, including bringing his younger sister's softball team to a championship.
Mike and Deanna loved the ocean and moved from Lansdale, PA to Pawleys Island, South Carolina in 2014. Mike's love extended to all animals and especially his poodles, Chubby Charlie and Slim Sam. Mike relished being a bit funny and outrageous, reveling in entertaining others. Mike and Deanna enjoyed entertaining and playing cards and board games with their many neighborhood friends. Mike walked Sam and Charlie on the beach every day and he earned the nickname of Cookie Man because he always greeted all the dogs with the treats he carried in his pockets. Besides his friendliness, Mike was known for his love of Roy Orbison and love songs of the 50's and 60's. Mike recently finished his autobiography and his brother says there may even be some truth in it - albeit by accident!
Mike will be deeply missed by his wife and companion of 25 years, Deana (Haroldean) Smith, his son Michael Warren Sabia, his identical twin, Warren Robinson Sabia (Winter Morris), sister Gabriela Assagiola, step-children Kyle (Lauren) Smith, Kolleen (Carl) Schmitt and children CJ, Allison and Ben, and great grandchild Joleen Schmitt.
Friends are invited to drop by the house at 96 Patriot Lane, Pawleys Island, SC on Thursday, June 13, from 1-3 PM. A Memorial will be held in September in Lansdale, PA. Please contact the family for details.
