Michael Kenton Redding, 43, of Oklahoma City, OK, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023. He was born Aug. 20, 1979, to William K. “Ken” and Laurel (Hume) Redding. He was born in Weatherford and lived in Hydro, OK before moving to El Reno in 1985.
Michael graduated from El Reno High School in El Reno, OK in 1998. A talented musician, Michael learned to play French horn and was part of the jazz band playing the saxophone. He lived there until 2017 when he moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to his family. His niece Eliza brought a ton of joy to his life when she joined the family that year. Her beloved Uncle Umi believed she could do no wrong and he could always be counted on for hugs 6 feet in the air.
Michael loved family gatherings, jazz and blues music; and sci-fi and fantasy.
He loved to laugh and to make others happy. He was a wonderful chef, lover of exotic foods and always made his family’s favorite dishes upon request. Michael loved the music of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, The Mamas & The Papas, and James Taylor, and listened to them often while cooking.
Michael was fiercely loyal and counted many “Chosen family” members as his own. He was the oldest and (of course) the tallest of a group many called the Rat Pack. He was known as “Goliath” among the crowd with Evans, Ross, Casey, Cole, Jack, Joe, Greg, Scott, Chad, Cody and Karl.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Redding. Michael is survived by his mother, Laurel; brother, Evans Redding and his wife Whitney; sister, Caitlin Redding Taylor and her husband Alan; and niece, Eliza Rose Taylor. His gentle presence will be sorely missed by his many family, friends and co-workers at AtLink.
Michael meant more to his family than he ever understood. Please join us in celebrating Michael and his kind and gentle soul. His uncle, Scott Hume, will officiate the service and share more of our many wonderful memories of him. Service information can be found at wilsoncares.com.
“Life” by Michael Redding
Life is like a river
That constantly flows.
Never completely blocked;
Never completely slowed
Always going forward,
Never going back.
Looking to the future
But never forgetting the past.
