Michael D. Ranno, Sr., 76, a lifelong resident of Meriden, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, after a long illness. Born on December 1, 1944, he was the son of the late Michael (Mickey) and Carmella (Commesso) Ranno.
He attended Meriden schools and was self-employed as a carpenter. Mike learned the carpentry trade from his father Mickey and would go on to build many buildings in Meriden and in surrounding towns. He could build anything with a hammer and chisel. During retirement Mike always enjoyed a day of fishing or visiting Stowe's Seafood in West Haven to dine on his favorite seafood or hang out with friends at Dunkin Donuts. Mike would always help friends and family if they asked for his time. He could answer any questions about construction without seeing the project. Mike had many many friends in his hometown, who he never forgot. While driving around town, if he saw a friend, Mike would acknowledge them by yelling out the car window, because everyone had a nickname, his family never knew who he was talking about. Mike was a down to earth guy; he didn't need much in life to get by. He was happy living with no worries and never stressed about much. He never bothered anyone. Mike will always be remembered by his family and friends for his dry humor and stupid jokes.
Mike is survived by his sons: Michael and wife Patricia of Southington, Brian and his wife Rosa of Meriden, Daniel and his fianc? Jacquelyn of Meriden, Kevin and his partner Joey of Ruskin, FL and his daughter Heather Blakeslee and her husband Kenny of So. Meriden; a brother Richard Ranno and his wife Pamela of Clinton; his sister Patricia Blouin of Meriden; seven grandchildren: Cassandra, Jeffery, David, Michael, Zachary, Madison, Jacob and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: Robert and Larry and his brother-in-law Al Blouin.
Mike's children would like to thank their Aunt Patricia for caring for their father during his illness.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at 9:30 a.m., from the Meriden Memorial Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady Queen of Angels, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Campus, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
