Help us celebrate Michael! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Michael.
Mike Pettit completed his lifelong story, and entered his greatest adventure on Friday, July 23, 2021 near his home in The Villages, Florida. He began life October 1, 1942, in Houston, Texas, courtesy of parents Loyal Dodge Pettit and Arlena Harrison Pettit who have preceded him in death; as have his siblings Barbara Taylor, Sheila Richardson and Robert (Bob) Pettit. He is survived by his sisters Grace Hefner, Mary Burd, and Christine Eberle; his children Robert Dale Pettit, Elizabeth Pettit Hocker, Thomas Bertlyn Pettit, Catharine Ann Moses and Kurt Robert Boyer, eight grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends who miss him dearly. Mike was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He joined the United States Marine Corps at age 17 and proudly rose to the rank of Sergeant, serving in combat during Vietnam and teaching search and seizure in Okinawa, where he served with his brother in the Military Police. His experience in the Marines played a very important role in his life. Always a playful kid at heart, he enjoyed employment at Mattel Toys in California from 1970 to 1988 where he was often sent around the world in performance of his job duties. He enjoyed many years living, working and exploring Asia before his retirement. During his retirement he spent time penning and publishing over thirty books, predominantly available through Amazon. He loved fishing, SCUBA diving, dancing, the ocean, exploring the world, finding "treasures", and entertaining a room of people with great stories. He will be remembered by his gift of connecting with people, his warm and playful spirit, his love for his family and dogs, painting, and spinning fantastic stories.
He is survived by his loving wife of his last 33 years, Sharon Robinson Pettit.
