Michael "Mike" Allen McKay, Sr., 68, of Aberdeen, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab following a courageous 10-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. His wishes were to be cremated and graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2020, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Westport, SD. Pastor Jeff Whillock, of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, will officiate. As seating will be very limited at the cemetery, please bring your own chair to the service. A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the graveside service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center in Aberdeen. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with a public prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends may sign Michael's online guestbook and view his services via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com. Michael "Mike" Allen McKay, Sr. was born July 17, 1952, in Fargo, ND to Milton and June (Grandbois) McKay. He attended high school in Frederick, SD, where he played football and drove bus. Following graduation, Mike spent most of his life working with his hands doing construction. Mike married Marie Schaunaman in 1973. Mike and Marie had two children, Mallisa and Michael Jr. Later he married Linda Tisher, who brought two sons, Erik and Dylan Hovrud, to the family. Mike loved wood working, gardening, dancing, laughing, and most of all, his family. He had so much love for his parents, siblings, and their families, as well as his own. Mike truly had the gift to gab and loved telling stories, joking around, and laughing. Mike was admitted to Aberdeen Health and Rehabilitation on September 23, 2019, where he met his extended family who handled his physical therapy and care until his passing. Mike is survived by his daughter, Mallisa (Robin) Hornseth and step-sons, Erik and Dylan Hovrud; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Terry (Kathy) McKay and Nicky McKay; brothers-in-law: Ken (Mary) Tisher, Vic (Jo Niehoff) Tisher and Tim (Ruby) Tisher; and sisters-in-law, Polly (Dick Henninger) Becker and Shawn (Kevin) Carlson; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mike is preceded in death by his wife, Linda McKay; son, Michael McKay, Jr.; parents, Milton and June McKay; father and mother-in-law, Lyle and Wilma Tisher; brother-in-law, Delwyn Tisher; and sisters-in-law, Shirley Tisher and Beverly Tisher.
