Michael Meyer, age 77, of Mound, MN, formerly of Maple Lake, MN
and Fairmont, MN, died peacefully at home on April 14, 2024. Mike
will be missed by many. Everyone who met him loved him and his
unique ability to make those around him feel like they mattered- he
was a friend to many near and far. Always a good listener and showed
up for people in their life when they most needed him.
Mike was born on November 28, 1946 to Paul and Wilda Meyer.
Growing up in Mankato he enjoyed biking in the neighborhood, playing
kick the can, Boy Scouts and going on a family trip to see the Rose
Bowl Parade. Mike graduated from Mankato High School in 1965 and
attended Vocational school for architectural drafting. He enlisted in the
Army in 1967 and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Mike was united into marriage with Marlys Henkels in 1970. Their
marriage blessed them with three children. Mike was always proud of
his kids and could be found carrying around pictures or news clippings
on his clipboard.
Mike founded Meyer Construction in 1980 and operated the business
for over 25 years. Mike was a hard worker and continued to work for
several years, never fully retiring until his health required it. Known for
having tremendous pride in his work, he ensured his clients were
pleased with the results the team had done. He enjoyed the
relationships he built with the many friends and coworkers he made
throughout the years.
Mike was united into marriage with Pat Clover in 1990. They enjoyed
traveling- travels that included camping at Dawson's, motorcycling
though the hills of Sturgis, watching the sun rise and set from the
beaches of San Diego, Jamaica and San Salvador. Mike had an
uncanny way of making "that" connection with people he would meet
during his travels. They loved spending time with friends, sharing
stories at the Channel Inn, visiting and playing dominos.
Mike was an avid reader and never gave a book without writing an
inscription first. He loved to find a quaint diner for breakfast and had a
skillful eye for landscape photography. He was a cowboy at heart and
loved to watch westerns and listen to country music. He was a lifelong
learner and often could be found watching the History Channel. Mike
was a prolific blood donor and sharing this gift with others was
important to him.
Mike cherished his family most of all. His roles as son, husband, dad,
brother, uncle and papa were his life's most important work. He
especially loved his role as Papa, spending time with grandkids while
eating donuts, going to rodeos, swimming, playing cards, building
legos and attending their sporting activities.
With deep gratitude to all those who cared for him until the last day
following his valiant battle with leukemia and the after effects of
treatment, but especially to the VA Hospital, Fairview BMT team,
Adara Home Health and Harrison Bay and Lifespark Hospice.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Pat Meyer, his
children, Kelly Henry, David Meyer, Robyn Churchill (Mark), Andie
Coakley (Joe), Bridget Fortin (Jamie) and Katie Diaz (Tyler). Known as
Papa to his grandchildren: Nick, Ella, Austin, Paige, Lewis, Emily,
Megan, Jake, Abbey, Anika, Jax, Colt, Harper and Karsen. He is also
survived by his siblings, sister Marna Billings (Dennis), brother Steve
Meyer (Diana), sister-in-law Kathy Haller (Bill), brother-in-law Michael
Weber (Jeannie), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
Mike was preceded into death by his parents, Paul and Wilda, father
and mother-in-law, Ken and Millicent Weber, brother and sister-in-law,
Rich and Vicki Meyer and nephew, Brandon Meyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations preferred to the Special
Olympics Minnesota, American Red Cross (blood services), and
National Bone Marrow Donor/Be the Match.
A celebration of Mike's life is planned for Friday, April 19, 2024, 12:30 PM with a visitation from 11-2 PM all at Interlaken Golf Club, 277 Amber Lake Road, Fairmont MN 56031
MN.
