70, of Belle, passed away on October 17, 2024, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston.
A man of deep love, loyalty and dedication, Michael touched the hearts of all who knew him. He was a loving and devoted father, a faithful husband and an incredible grandfather who always put his family first. His warmth and gentle spirit made him more than just a provider; he was the glue that held his family together.
For over 40 years, Michael worked as a lab technician with SGS Mineral Services. While his professional life was one of dedication, it was his personal life where he truly shined. He was an active member of the Belle Church of the Nazarene and a steadfast friend of Bill W. until the end. Michael never turned away from those in need, offering his kindness and support to anyone who crossed his path. He had a passion for woodworking, golf and playing cornhole where he became known as "The Legend". His hobbies were things that connected him with the people he loved most. Whether he was attending the annual Chandler Drive Memorial Golf Tournament with his son or tinkering in his workshop, Michael was always doing something - always building, creating, and sharing his joy.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte Horton, whom he cherished deeply; his parents, John W. and Dorothy Blosser Horton, and siblings, John Horton and Ruth Phillips.
He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children: sons, Michael Adam Horton of Dunbar, Patrick Horton (Kaitlin) of Huntington; daughters, Ashley Holley (Matthew) of Cross Lanes and Laura Horton (Jon Atkins) of Belle. He also leaves behind his brother, Steve Horton (Sandy) of Charleston, his sisters, Lynn Horton and Debbie Bostic both of Charleston; as well as eight adored grandchildren. Michael's presence in their lives will forever remain a source of strength and comfort.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Belle Church of the Nazarene with Pastor David Clark officiating. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service at the church. In keeping with Michael's wishes, cremation will follow the funeral service. The family would like to extend an invitation for dinner and fellowship following the service at the Belle Church of the Nazarene Activity Building.
