Michael Lee Hayes, 56, passed away suddenly on July 9, 2023. Born July 20, 1967 to Janet and Thomas Hayes, Mike spent his youth on the family farm with his brother, Scott. There were days filled with dirt-bike excursions, barn shenanigans, and everything typical a farm kid could muster. During Mike's adolescence, family vacations, 4-H fairs, and youth sports consumed his time until he graduated from Oregon Davis High School in 1985. Mike attended Purdue University, later joining the family farm. It was in the corn and soybean fields of Hamlet, Indiana that Mike flourished and nurtured his true calling; farming. In the late 90's, Michael was given the precious gift of fatherhood. Austen Thomas and Myah Noelle put a smile on his face daily. The memories of his rural childhood were revisited as he watched his two children repeat the same activities of his youth. It gave him great pride to watch them develop into adults pursuing their own dreams. His son would continue to grow the family farm alongside his father. This partnership was dear to Mike's heart, as his quiet dream was always to have his son follow in his footsteps. Mike's loyalty to his friends and wild sense of humor were noticeable among those who were in his presence. His laugh was genuine and reverberating. He was full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences on the farm. He willingly shared that knowledge with anyone needing assistance. He will be remembered for sharing his heart with his family and friends and continuing the legacy of Hayes Farms. Mike is survived by his parents, Tom and Jan Hayes; his brother, Scott Hayes; his children, Austen and Myah; and many loyal friends that have been by his side throughout his lifetime. Mike is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Sam and Ruby Hayes and his maternal grandparents George and Mary Owens. To say he will be greatly missed by his family and friends is an understatement. Per Mike's wishes, cremation has taken place as he wished his ashes to be spread on the family farm. His family will take time privately to honor and remember a life well-lived. To leave online condolences please visit rannellsfuneralhome.com.
