Michael E. Wheatley, 75, peacefully passed away on July 11, 2020 after a 6 month battle trying to find answers for what was literally taking his life. Michael was the 10th of 11 children born to Alton and Laura Buckman Wheatley. In Sept. 1947, the family moved from Kentucky to St. Louis, Mo. there Michael would meet Darlene Mitchell in high school. They would marry at the courthouse downtown on May 18, 1965. Later on, in July, out of respect for Michael's mother, they would marry at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. In St. Louis, they would have 2 children, Monica and Angela. We would also have a little girl named Gwen Nieters come into our life. Michael would go to work for Brown and Williamson in 1967 and worked there for over 37 years. He received many promotions and ended his full time career in Oklahoma City as Region Manager. After retirement, he took a part time position in the military division working for Mr. Ron Foster. He developed many close relationships with his coworkers, such as Bill Brown, Don Selenke, Ron Foster, and many he calls friends. He loved spending time on the phone with old friends like Byron Greeson, Don Britt, and Sam. Always remembering Dave the Dude. Michael loved his family so very much. He was a devoted father and husband. He loved his grandchildren and his greats. So very very proud of each of them. He loved nicknaming them. He sang to them and kept them laughing. His greats were an absolute joy to him and the whole family. Each one has special stories of Michael to tell and he had an influence on them in seeing that the gift of joy and laughter was passed on. Michael belonged to St. Thomas Aquinas and for the most part attended daily mass. He really loved the children's mass because until 3 years ago he had at least one grandchild there. After joining our Lord's Circle of prayer group, Michael loved dropping me off there, so he could tease the ladies and of course, get a treat. He brought joy to so many. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00p.m. July 16 at St. Thomas Aquinas on Kenwood. Burial will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery on Lombardy Ln.
