OLD FORGE — Michael J. DeVergilius, 84, of Old Forge, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at home with his wife by his side. He was married to the former Jocelyn Yarrish. The couple celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
Born Jan. 10, 1939, in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Michael Sr. and Fiora Mancini DeVergilius. He was a graduate of Old Forge High School's class of 1956, where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He later graduated from the University of Scranton. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 37 years at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge.
Michael loved his family and enjoyed beach vacations and cruises. He was very handy and loved working on projects around his home. He also loved golfing and playing cards with his friends. Michael's greatest joy was spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Fiora.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Jerry Uhrin, and Personal Home Health and Hospice Care, for the kind and compassionate care given to Michael.
In addition to his wife, Jocelyn, Michael is survived by his daughter, Kyla Melucci, and his granddaughter, Fiora.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, at 10 a.m., at the Prince of Peace Parish, 123 W. Grace St., Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, pastor. Interment will follow at the Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Michael at the Prince of Peace Parish on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m.
