Michael R. DeFatta, age 63, of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully on February 19, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Frontal Temporal Degeneration.
Mike was born September 25, 1957 in Ft. Eustis, Virginia. He was a 1975 graduate of Butler High School in Huntsville where he was a National Merit Finalist. Mike graduated with high honors with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1980.
Mike worked at several companies, among those including Thiokol, Lockheed Martin, and Teledyne Brown Engineering, and excelled professionally at each location. In 2000, he was the recipient of a Galaxy award from Lockheed Martin Information Systems.
Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, and his friends. He also enjoyed participating in sporting activities, including golf, racquetball, and soccer (where he coached and played).
Mike is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lance DeFatta, his two daughters Diana DeFatta and Danielle Williams (Marshall), and grandchildren Vivian and Henry. Mike is also survived by his father Vincent DeFatta (Janet) and his brothers Rick (Michelle) and Chris. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Pate DeFatta.
Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Huntsville on Saturday, February 27th at 10:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. Inurnment in Good Shepherd Columbarium will be immediately afterwards.
