Michael Earl Crawford, 79, of Elgin, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022. Born on June 30, 1943, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert Norman Crawford and Eloise Jones Ward. Mike was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Blythewood.
Mike was the loving husband of 47 years to Marie Huggins Crawford. He was a United States Air Force veteran and proudly served in the Vietnam War. Mike graduated from Jacksonville High School in North Carolina. He attended East Carolina University and earned his master's degree from the University of Nebraska. He dedicated many years to working as an inspector for United States Customs. Following his retirement, Mike began teaching business classes for middle and high school.
Mike's greatest passion in life was being a grandfather to his eight grandchildren. He took pride in attending their recitals and ballgames. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. Mike enjoyed puzzles, golf, and yardwork. He was a master gardener with great knowledge in plants and flowers. Family and friends fondly remember Mike for his skilled cooking and famous salsa.
In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his children, Stacie R. Thigpen (Chris), Guy Crawford (Angela), and Blake M. Crawford (Lindsay); siblings, Norwood Crawford (Margaret) and Gretta "Bubbles" Dorman (Britt); grandchildren, Caitlin, Laura Beth, Emily, Makayla, Morgan, William, Edward, and Elleanor; and a host of numerous loving nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by grandson, Duncan Thigpen.
The memorial service for Mike will be held at 4 o'clock on Friday, October 7th, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 90 Boney Road, Blythewood, SC. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 3 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
