Michael E. Cowgill, 68, of South Bend IN. died Sunday January 24, 2021 at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph MI. Mike was born on July 11, 1952 in Benton Harbor, the son of (the late) Otta Alvin Cowgill and Violet Lorean (Thomas), Riffle. After graduating from high school, Michael attended Purdue University where he earned his Associates Degree for Plumbing and Heating. Michael has been a South Bend resident for over 30 years. He was currently employed as a Motor Route Carrier for the South Bend Tribune. Mike was known as a kind, caring person with true dedication to his customers. He had a lifelong love for music and grew up singing in his church and playing instruments, which led to his long-standing involvement with many area bands, playing guitar, drums and providing vocals. Mike enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, but also enjoyed video games as well. In addition to his parents, Mike was also preceded in death by brothers, George, Kenneth & Ottie Cowgill, and an infant sister, Shirley Cowgill. He is survived by five children and two grandchildren. Mike is also survived by his siblings; sisters, Cathy Ann Cowgill of South Bend, Judy (Alden) Ballinger and Pamela Cowgill both of Watervliet MI; brothers, Thomas Cowgill of Mohawk TN, Allen Cowgill of Walkerton IN and Alvin Cowgill in Missouri. Mike was also an uncle to his many nieces & nephews, as well as great-nieces & nephews. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements through Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave. in South Bend. The family's preferred memorial is the American Cancer Society of Northern Indiana.
