Mr. Michael Todd Carter, age 52, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at his home following a battel with cancer. Born in Wayne County, North Carolina, on October 27, 1970, he was the son of Herman Barry "H.B." and Doris Jean Carter. After graduating from High School Michael completed the apprenticeship program as a journeyman carpenter and worked with W.F. Magann Corporation in Portsmouth, Virginia, for more than 20 years. He helped in the construction of the Coleman Bridge over the York River and many piers and dry docks in the Virginia Navy Ports. After becoming disabled, he still liked to make things with his hands and to stay busy. His surviving family includes his parents, H.B. and Doris Jean Carter of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Lauran Sarah Carter of Richmond, VA; son Joseph Rodrigo Carter of Philadelphia, PA; sister Pamelia Molina and husband Denny of Falls Church, VA; and uncle, Richard Carter of West Palm Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas O'Neal and Myrtle Radford Carter; maternal grandparents, William and Viola Radford Baise; and brother, Berry O'neal Carter. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 14th, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverend Todd Sutton officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com.
